Gabriele Pala – Music For Magic

21 Oct 2017 - - Discography,Self productions

This is the first, and the only one at the present day, album released under my personal name and not as a band or as a project.

The 17 tunes of this work were written in few months at the beginning of 2017 with the intent to create a soundtrack for the shows of the Italian illusionist Gasp. You can hear these songs if you are lucky to attend to one of his performances.

This work is completely instrumental (with the exception of some short spoken vocal section). The most interesting point is the no actual instrument has been played by anyone. All music you will hear has been written on a musical score without the use of any musical device and then rendered by means of virtual instruments and dedicated plugins.

Nevertheless, these songs sound intriguing, athmospheric and mysterious as it should be for a serious illusionism show.

Goldenseed – The Astral Hologram

18 Oct 2017 - - Discography,Self productions

This is the fourth chapter of my solo project, Goldenseed. It was written and recorded in 2017, a bunch of years later than its predecessor.

Initially, the intent was to create a solo album for the Chapman Stick alone, with some occasional clean vocal lines. However, all the singers I got in contact with couldn’t really get into the project’s mood, so at the end I decided to drastically change the arrangements of the songs and turn this material into a brand new Goldenseed album.

Upon the backbone created by the Stick, that still plays the original scores I wrote for it, I added 8 string guitars, a 6 strings fretless bass, some keyboard and my raspy chocked voice. The result is what you can hear on the record: 10 tracks of experimental death metal with a lot of virtuousity in the bass register.

The lyrics are about conspiracy theories, which are very popular nowadays, but heavily changed with my fantasy.

This album has been released in digital format only, so you can find it on the most popular streaming platforms.

Minotauro – Apocalyptic Sense

17 Oct 2017 - - Collaborations,Discography

Minotauro are a great progressive symphonic metal act made up of musicians from Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. They have two official albums out, both published by German labels.

In this second album, dated 2017, I had the privilege to play a guitar solo in the song “Seven”.

If you like Metal, please follow them on the main social networks and add them to your playlists, you won’t regret it!

Born Again – Unprecedented Atrocities

22 Oct 2016 - - Discography,Official albums

This is the first and the only album of the band Born Again, in which I had the pleasure to play between 2014 and 2017.

It contains ten tracks of obscure and dark heavy metal, with a lot of old-school influences, yet capable of sounding fresh and catchy. In this album, differently from all my previous works, I did not improvise the guitar solo, but I studied and written each one of them as if they were small songs within the main song, with their specific arrangements and harmonies.

This band was born in 2014 with the purpose of playing a single concert to tribute the guitar player of Rigor Mortis (a historical band of my area) who died for a cancer some years before. After that concert we wrote this album, that was published by the Polish label Via Nocturna, and was officially released on the Halloween night of 2016.

Gabriele Pala – 8 strings guitars
Giuliano Erraco – vocals / guitar / acoustic guitar
Rudy Berginc – bass
Mauro Clemente – drums

Celestial Serenity – The City Of Golden Gates

24 Oct 2014 - - Collaborations,Discography,Self productions

Celestial Serenity are an internaltional project made up of musicians coming from all over the Earth.

I was invited in this band by Joshua Leon, initially to play some guitar solos. In the meanwhile, the original bassist left the project, so I decided to take over his role by embracing the Chapman Stick.

CS’s music is progressive and dreamy, yet with a lot of metal influences. If you like bands like Cynic, this work could make your day.

Joshua Leon – guitars / vocals (SINGAPORE / UK)
Gabriele Pala – chapman stick
Manfred Dikkers – drums (HOLLAND)
Mike Browning – vocals (USA) – former Morbid Angel drummer, founder and member of Nocturnus
Richard Kaczynski – keyboards / piano / synthesizers (USA)
Johan Lindforskeyboards / synthesizers (SWEDEN)
Julien Assali – saxophone (FRANCE/GUATEMALA)
Dave Swaleskeyboards / synthesizers (NEW ZEALAND)

Azure Agony – Our Last Time On Earth

23 Oct 2014 - - Discography,Self productions

This is the third and last (for the moment) album of Azure Agony, published in digital format only, right before we decided to suspend the activities of the band in 2014.

This album features a totally renewed bass & drums section.

We wanted this work to be a musical testament of what we did thus far, before splitting up the band (the title is for sure meaningful).

We selected the most intriguing song of the first album and re-arranged them in an acoustic format, by replacing guitars with the Chapman Stick and the keyboards with the accordion. The result came out as a really interesting experiment, with a flavour close to the French traditional music.

Sadly we couldn’t play this music live.

Federico Ahrens – vocaals
Gabriele Pala – chapman stick
Marco Sgubin – synthesizers / accordion
Nickolas Gios – bass
Alessandro Dri – drums and percussions

Goldenseed – The War Is In My Mind

30 Oct 2012 - - Discography,Official albums

I began to write the music for this album in 2011 with the intent to create a solo work mainly focused on guitar, after having participated with the song Kosmos 233 in an international contest called Guitar Idol, 3rd edition.

After the competition (that I didn’t win btw :D ), Kosmos 233 and another song should have been listed in a shred guitar compilation created by the American label Shredguy Records.

However, none of these goals were persued, so I decided to turn all the song I’ve had written in the meanwhile into a Goldenseed release, by adding some elements of experimentations and arrangements to the music, like I already did for my previous works of the same band.

Thanks to Luigi Coppo, on the last track of the record, I had the pleasure to have as a guest vocalist Stian Culto (ex Mayhem, Thy Abhorrent, Con Anima, Shadow Dancers e altri). “Dead On The Road” is a cover of the song “On The Road” by Chris Holder, guitar player of the Italian band Black Deal, deceased since a couple of decades.

The finished product has been published by the Italian label SG Records in 2012 and distributed worldwide by Andromeda Records.

The reviews were discordant: some depicted this music as notably attempt to create something new and expressive, others labelled it as cold and ununderstandable (a thing that I honestly take as a compliment).

Due to the lack of a real band, these songs were never played live, except at a clinic with the amazing Felix Martin, in which I played a couple of them upon a pre-recorded track.

Azure Agony – India

27 Oct 2012 - - Discography,Official albums

This is the second Azure Agony album, the first one with vocals.

Perhaps it’s the most melodic and linear music that I’ve ever written so far.

Like the previous work of the band, the backbone of these songs can be found in the prog metal area, taking inpiration from the quite obvious Dream Theater mastery, however we tried to be as much as personal as we could.

India is a concept album: the lyrics are all tied together in a single story where a man is looking for an imaginary place that he thinks resides in a corner of his mind.

This work has been published in 2012 by the Italian label SG Records.

Gabriele Pala – 8 string guitars / Chapman Stick

Gone In April – We Are But Human

30 Oct 2011 - - Collaborations,Discography

On this album I played the guitar solo on the songs “Immolation To Survive” and “Since You Are Gone”.

Gone In April are a Canadian band featuring on the bass the incredible Steve DiGiorgio (who does not need any special introduction). When this album came out (it’s their first) they were instead an international musical project made up of musicians from Canada, Italy and Germany.

Their music is very original and catchy: it mixes the classic death metal riffage with elements from classical music and folk, with real string instruments and female operatic voice.

I was invited into this band by Chicco Parisi. At that time he was the bassist for the band and previously he was bassist for the Italian band Sadist (he played on that masterpiece entitled Tribe).

This album has been mastered at the legendary Morrisound Recordings, where most of the great classic death metal albums of the early 90s took life.

Sadly, at the moment, the band removed this album from the digital platforms, so I’m not able to share anything. I just recommend to check their website and order a copy of it in CD format.

Azure Agony – Beyond Belief

01 Nov 2010 - - Discography,Official albums

This is the first album I made with Azure Agony.

I joined this band in 2006, accepting an invitation from the keyboardist Marco Sgubin to play three songs (written by a previous line-up) for a local contest.

After that event we decided to continue as a band, to write a full-length album.

We also tried to add a singer, but we didn’t find a suitable one, so the 50 minutes of Beyond Belief remained instrumental.

In the beginning we just printed few copies of it, to be sold to families and friends.

However, we were contacted by SG Records, at that time they were one of the most active indie label in Italy, and our album was published worldwide getting a ton of good reviews.

I still think of it as one of the best work I participated in.

Marco Firman – bass
Carlo Simeoni – drums
Gabriele Pala – guitar
Marco Sgubin – keyboard

Anna Marcossi – cello
Giorgio Marcossi – flute
